Let's Get This Started...

I've decided to start this blog purely so I have a place to record some of my favorite recipes so I can "Pin" them and share them with my friends.  :)  Gotta love Pinterest eh?  It's my online recipe box.  Everything goes there so I won't lose it! :)  LOL!

So here's the first one.

These are one of my family's favorite cookies of all times.  I would love to give credit to where this came from, but I clipped it from a magazine probably 10 or 12 years ago, and I have since lost the original clipping (see above comment about Pinterest...).   So, I take absolutely no credit for this recipe, I'm just sharing a family favorite. :)

Sugar and Spice Cookies

¾ c shortening
1 c brown sugar
1 egg
¼ c molasses
2 ¼ c flour
1 tsp soda
1 ½ tsp cinnamon
1 tsp each: ground ginger and nutmeg
¼ tsp each: allspice and black pepper
2 tsp water (if necessary, to help dough stick together)
Sugar for rolling

In a large bowl, with electric mixer, cream shortening and brown sugar until fluffy; beat in egg and molasses.

In a separate bowl, mix together flour, soda and spices. Beat about half of the flour mixture into creamed mixture using medium speed; stir in remainder.

Shape dough into 1 inch balls; roll in sugar. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheet.

Bake in 350o oven for 8-10 minutes or until tops are cracked.

Cool on wire rack.

Makes: about 55 cookies.

Really hope you try these and enjoy them! :)
